Before You Remodel Your Kitchen, Check out These Custom Kitchen Ideas

Custom Kitchen Ideas, Fairfield County, CT

The kitchen has become the hub of the home. Not only is the kitchen the place where you prepare foods, more often than not, it ends up being the gathering place for family and friends. At Titus Built, our client’s input is essential when designing their kitchen. When thinking about a kitchen renovation their lifestyle plays an important part of the design and material selection. Keeping up with the Jones’ is not the key factor, but rather what suites their budget and lifestyle. Resale is also a key factor when considering a remodel.  When choosing a remodeler to renovate your kitchen it is important to hire a partner that can enhance your lifestyle as well as increase the value of your home; a partner that will ensure a smooth and positive experience. It’s critical that you understand your partner’s vision, philosophy, and values to make sure they align with your goals.

Design is a crucial part of the remodel. Quality cabinetry is another key component to a good kitchen renovation. You want your dollars to last and not “look good” for a short period of time. Fine cabinetry uses quality materials and workmanship as well as offers unique, custom styles.

Below are photos of fine quality cabinetry including clever kitchen ideas:

Cabinetry with self-closing soft touch technology

Our Harbor View clients’ wanted a kitchen where they could entertain. We designed and handcrafted a kitchen where each custom piece of cabinetry was made completely by hand at 1″ thick, with self-closing soft touch technology and substantial marble countertops providing ample space for prep, cooking and entertaining during large gatherings.

Stone surrond with spice rack inside surround

One of our Redding clients brought us their ideas and we worked with them right down the smallest details to give them the kitchen they desired. Cabinet doors were designed and fabricated to the millimeter of our clients’ specifications; wood for countertops was hand selected by Jeff Titus and the clients; the stone surround and stone incorporated into the island were handcrafted to complement the adjacent family room fireplace; and, the organization of the info center was tailored to our clients’ requirements. Photo is of the veneer stone surround with spice shelves installed inside the surround.

Paper towel roll in cabinetry

A New Canaan, client wanted to make sure her newly remodeled kitchen stayed uncluttered, so she requested cabinet built-ins for paper towels. General manager Jeff Titus and the architect worked together on the design, which includes a holder to the right of the main sink and the island sink. Other details in the kitchen include a variation in depth of base cabinets; a custom made china hutch; and a full walk-in pantry.

Laundry Room Hidden in Kitchen Cabinets

Our Westport clients wanted more room in their home to accommodate their three growing children and make the whole family more comfortable. At the same time, it was important to them to maintain the integrity of their 1914 house. They wanted the remodel to look as if it had always been a part of their home. Titus Built designed and built a 1-1/2 story addition, including a family room and additional living areas, to the back of the Westport couple’s home. The couple also wanted a functional laundry room in the kitchen/family room area, but wanted the washer and dryer units concealed. Titus Built designed and built cabinets to hide their washer and dryer units. Custom cabinets can be designed and handcrafted to accommodate both apartment and full-sized units.

Here are some other clever kitchen ideas that you should think about including in your kitchen design:

Trendy Tree Houses – Not Just For Children

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Tree House Design Concepts

When one of our client’s commissioned us to design a tree house for their children it sparked our interest. Were tree houses only for children? As we did our research we found out that tree houses are not just for children, but for the young at heart as well. Tree houses are located through out the world and are used as restaurants, hotels, playgrounds and family retreats:

Alnwick Gardens Tree House in Northumberland, England

  • Alnwick Gardens in Northumberland, England is the largest public garden in all of Europe. The Duke and Duchess of Northumberland commission a local contractor to create a 6,000 square foot tree house which houses a 120-seat restaurant, a retail shop, two classrooms and two private dining rooms as well as treetop walkways and cavernous spaces, www.alnwickgarden.com/eat/eat-in-the-treehouse.

Hole in the wall gang camp tree house

  • The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, Connecticut, “has an elaborate 340-foot ramp that leads visitors up to a magical hide-away with views of Pearson Pond,” www.holeinthewallgang.org.

  • Tree Houses are many things to many people:
o        Weekend getaway on their land in the country combining entertaining area for adults as well as kid friendly features.
o        A unique place to entertain and hang out with friends with access/egress by a cable bridge or ramp.
o        Children’s playhouse with access/egress by ladders, long rope swings and zip lines.
o        State Park Lookout Points
o        Golf Course Club Houses
o        Tree House Resorts
o        Guest Houses
o        Home Offices

So, next time you’re looking for more space, let Titus Built design and build add-on luxury to your home; a trendy new tree house. It’s a wonderful get away that is surrounded by nature’s serenity; a place where dreams can be fulfilled; and, with memories that will last you a lifetime.

Titus Built Encourages Clients to Recycle Existing Kitchens & Bathrooms

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Donate Used Kitchens

Titus Built is pleased to announce that a current New Canaan resident client donated their existing kitchen to Green Demolitions. “Green Demolitions sells luxury commercial surplus and donated kitchens, appliances, bathroom fixtures, home decor, etc. from houses being demolished and renovated in Greenwich and New Canaan, CT, Scarsdale and Bedford, NY, and beyond. Donation proceeds benefit Recovery Unlimited, the operating name of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting a highly successful addiction recovery program established in 1964.”

Recycle Existing Kitchen

 Existing Kitchen Island

The kitchen was sent to Green Demolitions of Riverdale, NJ. Julie Rinaldi, Julie@greendemolitions.com, updated the kitchen by adding new countertops; replacing the wooden knobs with contemporary tubular brushed nickel hardware; and, streamlining the island by cutting off the existing eating area. Julie said her customer purchased the entire kitchen ensemble, including the appliance, and was extremely delighted with their purchase.

Existing Kitchen Layout

Next time you remodel, remember to recycle! What better way to “go green” than to recycle your kitchen or bathroom. The recycled kitchen offers others the opportunity to receive a “new” kitchen which they may not have otherwise been able to afford, supports a worthy charity as well as providing you with a tax deduction. Go Green… Recycle!

  • Radiant heated floors in bathrooms.
  • Soaking tubs instead of Jacuzzis.
  • Steam bath/shower combos with advanced shower heads.
  • Privacy rooms for the toilets.
  • Dual vanities as well as a lower level vanity for putting on makeup.
  • Better ventilation creating comfortable room temperatures with less mold and mildew.
  • Flat screen televisions on swivel mount.
  • Quartz countertops are replacing granite countertops as the #1 choice.
  • Satin nickel faucets followed by brushed nickel faucets.
  • Under mount sinks continue to dominate while vessel sinks have become a clear second.

Bathroom Remodel - before & after photos

According to a CBS Money Watch Report “Bathrooms are the hottest project…Baths cost less than a kitchen or addition and most houses have more than one bath, so there are more available to be remodeled.”
